Reports of "Cleansing"

  • 28/05/2023
During the 19th century, the Russian Imperial Army committed serious crimes against humanity in the Northern Caucasus. The generals of the Russian Army believed that the only way to exploit the riches of the Caucasus was to destroy indigenous peoples of the North Caucasus. They conquered the North Caucasus as a result of ethnic cleansing, which they called "punitive operations" without distinction against the elderly, sick, women and children, but they could never subdue it. The genocide documents, which were hidden in the National Archives of the Republic of Georgia in Tbilisi, the center of the Russian Imperial Army Caucasian Military District Administration for more than 150 years, finally came to light in the early 2000s. In this collection called "Cleansing Reports" you will find evidence of ethnic cleansing and genocide by Russian Imperial Army officers against the peoples of the North Caucasus.
